This Month: A Short Vision (1956)
Each month in our Show and Tell section, we offer one film to four teachers to explore in different subject areas. This month we asked our contributors to look at one of the most influential British animations of all time, the powerful and disturbing A Short Vision (1956). Made by the husband and wife team of Peter and Joan Foldes, this short film never explicitly mentions the atomic bomb - a mysterious 'it' appears in the night sky, moving "swiftly, noiselessly, irresistibly". But the allegory is clear and, among other things, the film offers an excellent way in to exploring the sense of nuclear anxiety at the height of the Cold War.
